Good Saturday Evening, Readers (if you are reading this on the day it is posted). Today is Saturday, and I’ve spent the day with my fiance running errands and spending time together. After running errands, I spent time meditating to some adult coloring pages and thought to myself “wow, prayers really do get answered.” This then led me to thinking about something else: When I was growing up, I was always taught that ‘Heaven’ was a place one went to when they passed away. But now that I’m an adult reading the bible, I have found a completely different insight on Heaven based on the scripture. In this bible study, I will demonstrate that Heaven is not a reward for salvation, but rather a place one creates by practicing the lessons that lead to salvation.
“Nor will people say ‘here it is’ or ‘there it is’, because the kingdom of God is in your midst.” -Luke 17:21
This is a bible verse describing the kingdom of heaven. It clearly states in the book of Luke that Heaven is not a physical place one can point to or walk towards in a physical sense, but rather it is something you manifest through living in God’s image.
“Jesus replied ‘ Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” -John 14:23
Once again, this verse is talking about the kingdom of heaven, where Jesus is described as the ‘king of kings and lord of lords’. In this verse, Jesus is talking about how anyone who follows his lessons towards salvation will make those one with him, and with God. Literally, he is describing bringing Heaven to those who follow his word.
“For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 14:17
This is talking about what you’ll actually find once you ‘get’ to Heaven. It’s not this paradise with buffets and alcohol, but rather a place where there’s never-ending peace, joy, and community among others who are also aligned with the Holy Spirit.
Why is this meditation so important?
Right now, we are in a time of unbalance in the world. People are growing more aware of the discourse and corruption in our government. We’ve been grappling with all sorts of issues like war, prejudice, racial injustice, and but if you read yesterday’s posts, it highlights how prayers work and can be answered. Through meditation, I’ve made this discovery and I wanted to highlight it with some biblical wisdom.
“Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, On Earth as it is in Heaven.” – Matthew 6:9-10
This is a literal excerpt from the Lord’s Prayer that talks about Jesus literally encouraging his followers to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to Earth through our actions.
“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.” – 2 Corinthians 5:20
This is highlighting our role as children of God to act in his favor, literally bringing Heaven to Earth.
In Conclusion…
I felt like this meditation and insight is important to today’s world. To do my part in that, I’d like to end my blog post with a prayer taken from the bible directly:
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:7
Thank you for listening ❤
